Welcome to the Thunderdome

Today marks the beginning of my Summer Power Block.

What will YOU need to successfully complete the next 4 weeks of training:

  1. Access to a gym for 2 a day sessions
  2. Follow a structured mobility program daily
  3. Up your calorie intake. For most this will mean an increase of 1000 calories on BMR on workout days
  4. Take time to sleep. 6 hours is an absolute minimum.
  5. Your off days MUST be dedicated to recovery IN ADDITION TO your other interests.
  6. Relax. Take training seriously but have fun with it!

Over the next 4 weeks you will be beaten to a pulp as the number of workouts increases from 6 to 10.

Do not be scared, though, as I have taken care to alter the programming to cater to the increased demands on the body. Normally I follow a Wendler-style strength building protocol alongside my usual weightlifting, however, there is simply not enough time to do that daily and expect to progress. So, in its stead I have shifted into explosive barbell work.

This protocol keeps the weights relatively light as the focus for the morning workouts, relying on the tenets of speed and power.

The goal is to provide enough force with the arms to keep the bar moving upward until it’s locked out. The movements will be fast and explosive right from the start, but slows considerably as the bar nears lockout. Moving heavy weight fast, its fun.

This will keep you fresh for your evening workout as we go heavy and hard for your classic lifts.

Be ready to PR! I expect huge numbers come June 28.
