About Gunnery Sergeant Ralph DeQuebec – In 2012, GySgt DeQuebec deployed to Afghanistan with 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician and was tasked to support an Army Special Forces team. On June 21, 2012 while conducting an operation in Shurakay, Afghanistan, GySgt DeQuebec was disarming an improvised explosive device (IED) when a member of the Afghanistan National Army functioned the device. As a result of the blast, Ralph lost both legs above the knee.
During his recovery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, Ralph discovered through his FourBlock mentorship that he responds best, both physically and mentally, to recreational therapy. He had tried a variety of sports but found that he has especially excelled at sled hockey. Being able to be get out on the ice and play a sport that is full contact has given him a platform that he has been able to thrive in, both physically and mentally. As a result of our fund raising, Ralph has been able to pursue his dream of making the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey team. He is currently the Team Co-Captain of the US National Developmental Sled Hockey Team and in training for the US National Sled Hockey Team in order to join in the 2018 Paralympic Games in PyeongChang, Korea.
